“Conrado Yap, nasa pinas na ngayon, nandun na sa pier, nasa south harbor na [Conrado Yap, now in the Philippines, in South Harbor already],” Philippine Fleet commander Rear Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo told reporters on Monday.
The ship was donated by the South Korean government.
“Right now it is the most powerful, she is the most powerful surface combatant of the navy,” Bacordo said.
The ship has two 76-millimeter oto melara, two 40-mm otobreda guns, anti-aircraft guns, anti-surface, anti-submarine, and anti-air warfare capabilities.
Equipped with two gun turbines for speed, the ship was the most “potent” warship of the Philippines.
Bacordo recognized the importance of the ship because it would add to the anti-submarine capability of the country.
The new warship is proof, the commander said, that the country has strengthened its firepower for surface warfare and for air warfare.
The country has welcomed previously two Agusta Westland 159s – anti-submarine warfare helicopters. DARWIN PESCO
