“I’ve no plans… President Duterte is very popular, he doesn’t need me on his side… I am a member of Amnesty International, I have been all my life, and I think human rights is critical. This was done by showing picture of different personalities in the background stage. One of Bono's praises was Maria Ressa of Rappler.
“Women who light up history, your own Maria Ressa is an incredible woman… But…even Maria will say it’s not about individuals. It’s about collective action. It’s about social movement, so that all of you will grow up to be the President or Maria Ressa.,” said Bono.
Bono's comments and what they showed at their concert were lambasted by those who supported President Duterte.
Bono's history of being a tax evader was revealed. Using Google search engine, some articles about the foreign singer's issue of tax evasion appeared. Also, Ressa of Rappler is facing tax evasion in the Philippines.
“BIRDS OF A FEATHER ALLEGEDLY (para safe) EVADE TAX TOGETHER. Petty ako di ba? Ni research ko talaga ang pagiging tax evader ni Bono haha. Minister of Revenge, at your service. Kaya pala. EVADE EVADE EVADE FOREVERMORE,” said Manila Bulletin Lifestyle Writer Krizette Laureta Chu.
